about

My native home is a small town in southeastern Pennsylvania. Old-time music, the traditional music of the Appalachian South, filled our house from my earliest days. In my early twenties, I became interested in the music of Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania songs included here give voice to laborers, sailors, and immigrants who personify the history of the Keystone State.

Joining me on the album are four of my favorite musicians: Brittany Haas, Ben Krakauer, Tim O'Brien, and Mark Schatz. I admire the way they each interpret and honor traditional music. Recording with them was spontaneous, fun, and fulfilling. I am grateful for their friendship and artistry.
